1. A guide to pilot car requirements on PROVINCIAL HWYS is as follows:

*Note: Due to hills, dust, inclement weather, traffic and MoTH complaints, we recommend two pilot cars on the boundary road from Alberta border to Tumbler Ridge for loads over 3.5 m wide/27.5 m long
2. A guide to pilot car requirements on the ALASKA HIGHWAY north of Mile 317 (Junction 77/97) to the Yukon border is as follows:

*Towing vehicle must be equipped with and operate an amber flashing light.
Note: Maximum overall length allowed on Highway 97 north of Junction 77, North of Fort Nelson is 36 metres.
Second pilot car not required on Highway #77.
**Additional Pilot Cars may be required depending on actual size of load and route of travel.
4. One pilot car is required
(b) To the front when only the load projects more than 3 metres beyond the turning axis (kingpin)
(iii) To the front when only the load, boom or carne projects more than 6.5 metres forward of the turn center (front steering axle)
(iv) To the rear when only the rear overhang is more than 6.5 m beyond the turn center (exceptions cranes, mobile homes measured from center of last axle)
5. RADIO COMMUNICATIONS:
When a vehicle or load is in excess of 3.5 m in width, the towing vehicle and pilot vehicle(s) shall be equipped with compatible two-way radios are required by applicable T-Form.
6. SIGNS: REQUIRED ON OVERSIZE VEHICLE/LOAD
(a) Up to and including 3.2 m wide: NOT REQUIRED
(b) Over 3.2 m wide and up to 3.5 m wide LOAD, D Sign, or oversize load sign required front and rear.
(c) Over 3.5 m wide: Wide Load, oversize load or D Sign required front and rear and on Pilot Car.
(d) Over 25 m to 27.5 m: Required front and rear LONG LOAD oversize load, or “D” sign
(e) Over 27.5 m: Required front and rear LONG LOAD, oversize load or D signs and on Pilot Car.
Signs must comply with Division 8 of the Regulations.
By policy, D signs are acceptable at a width not less than 150 cm similar to oversize, long and wide load signs.

NOTE: TO BE USED FOR THE TRANSPORTATION OF VEHICLES/LOADS IN EXCESS OF 4.4 METRES IN WIDTH UP TO AND INCLUDING 5.0 METRES IN THE PEACE RIVER AREA ONLY.
TO BE ATTACHED TO AND FORM AN INTEGRAL PART OF PERMIT NUMBER
1. This Permit is VALID only
a) within the Peace River area from the BC/Alta border in the East to Mount Lemoray on Hwy 97 in the South to the Junction of Highway 77 and 97 (Alaska Highway) in the North, and including Highway 77 North to the Fort Nelson River Bridge.
b) during the hours of daylight 7 days a week including General Holidays
c) when visibility is not restricted for a distance of 100 metres due to unfavourable atmospheric conditions and when road conditions are classified as “good, according to the Ministry of Transportation and Highways road report
d) on Provincial Highways and Arterial Highways. When travelling municipal streets a municipal permit may be required, or there may be other restrictions that apply, check with the local municipal office and utility companies prior to moving the vehicle/load.
e) on highways and routes that have been specifically approved.
2. DIMENSIONS: (HEAVY HAUL/OILFIELD MOVES)
a) overall width 5.0 metres including all projections
b) overall length shall not exceed 36.0 metres unless otherwise stated on the face of the permit
c) overall height shall not exceed 5.33 metres unless otherwise stated on the face of the permit
3. PILOT CARS:
a) three pilot cars are required; two to the front and one to the rear at all times
b) pilot cars must be properly equipped and operated according to Division 8.04 of the Commercial Transport Act Regulations
c) two way radio communications is required between the pilot cars and towing vehicle
d) additional pilot cars may be required, depending on route for travel
4. RESTRICTED AREAS:
a) This oversize vehicle/load cannot operate with other traffic within any of the following restricted areas until the oversize vehicle/load has passed the restriction safely:
i) Peace River Bridge on Highway 97 south of Taylor, BC
ii) East Pine Bridge on Highway 97 east of Chetwynd and East Pine Hill west side of bridge to passing lane
iii) Clayhurst Bridge on Road #203 at Peace River
iv) Kiskatinaw Bridges on Highway 97 North and South
v) Beaton River Bridges on Road #103, North of Fort St. John
vi) Muskwa River Bridge on Highway 97 S/E of Fort Nelson
vii) Any other bridge wider than 5.0 metres
viii) Any other restricted area deemed necessary to maintain safety
b) This oversize vehicle/load cannot be transported over any of the following restricted bridges:
i) Peterson Bridge on Road #137, Milligan Creek Road
ii) Fort Nelson River Bridge on Highway 77, Liard Highway
iii) Blue Grave Creek Bridge on Road #117, Upper Halfway Road
iv) Forestry Bridge on Road #117, Upper Halfway Road
v) King Bridge on Road #157, Hilltop Road
vi) Robinson Bridge on Road #252F, Fleet Road
vii) Fort Nelson BC Rail Bridge on Road #510, Clark Lake Road
viii) Cypress Creek Bridge on Road #187, Cypress Creek Road
c) Applicant is responsible to ensure that these loads can be delivered to rural locations and that no other restrictions exist on secondary roads.
5. Red flags are required on all four (4) corners of the oversize vehicle or load. When two loads/trailers are oversize (eg. B Train), flags or lights must be displayed on all four corners of each load/trailer.
6. When oversize vehicles/loads are authorized by permit to travel at night, these vehicles/loads shall be lighted as follows: Front projections - white lights (MVAR 4.13); Rear projections - red lights (MVAR 4.13); Overwidth vehicles/loads (MVAR 4.11); Front extremities - amber lights, Rear extremities - red lights.
7. All signs must meet specifications as outlined in Division 8 of the Regulations pursuant to the Commercial Transport Act.
8. LAMPS: Must be equivalent to those required by Division 4 Motor Vehicle Act Regulations. In addition the load shall be equipped with two (2) flashing sealed beam amber lamps not less than 15 centimetres in diameter mounted on the upper two (2) corners, facing to the rear. Amber strobe lamps not less than 11
centimetres in diameter may also be used. The towing units shall be equipped with and operate one (1) or two (2) rotating or strobe lights amber in colour. When required, all lamps must be lighted while operating on a highway.
9. MIRRORS: If the vehicle or load obscures the rear vision from the towing vehicle the REAR VIEW MIRRORS must be extended or positioned so as to provide the driver with an undistorted reflected view of the adjacent lane of the highway from a point on the road surface 11 m behind the driver to a point on the road surface 61 m from the rear of the combination of vehicles.
10. The operator of the oversize vehicle/load shall pull off the travelled surface of the highway, at the first opportunity to allow following vehicles to pass. Travel shall be as far as practical to the right side of the highway and overhang shall be to the right ditch side of the highway.
11. There shall be no overtaking of any overdimensional vehicles/loads on any highway by this overdimensional vehicle/load. There shall be NO CONVOYING for oversize vehicles/ loads except as required by the permit. Convoying means any two oversize vehicles/loads while in transit less than a 5 minute interval apart on a section of highway.
12. If the final destination of the vehicle/load cannot be reached during authorized hours of operation, then the vehicle/load must be completely removed from the highway to a safe location until authorized by permit to continue another day.
These requirements are in additions to those stated within Paragraphs 1-12 of this Form T-69.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR MANUFACTURED HOMES AND MODULAR BUILDINGS
13. Manufactured homes and Modular Buildings which exceed 3.5 metres in width must also display on the rear of the structure this additional sign “CAUTION - MAY SLOW OR STOP UNEXPECTEDLY” as required by Division 8.03(2) of the Commercial Transport Regulations.
14. Dimensions:
(a) Manufactured Home:
Dimensions shall not exceed the following:
Overall width 5.0 metres including all projections
Overall length of the manufactured home including hitch 24.4 metres
(b) Overall vehicle combination dimensions shall not exceed the following:
Overall length:
- including single axle drive towing vehicle …. 30.5 metres
- including tandem axle drive towing vehicle ….31.5 metres
Overall height:
- not exceeding 5.33 metres (provided there are no vertical restrictions enroute)
Rear Overhang:
- not exceeding 6.9 metres measured from the center of the last axle
15. EQUIPMENT:
TOW VEHICLE: Interaxle spacing between steering axle and first drive axle cannot be less than 3.0 metres (TAC standard).
HITCHES: Ball hitches not allowed. Only gooseneck, 5th wheel, or pintle hitches are acceptable.
DOLLIES: Only 12 wheel tridem dollies are allowed with air or spring suspension. Tridem dolly running gear width cannot exceed 3.20 metres wide or be less than 2.5 metres wide. Dollies must display a valid CVIP inspection decal.
BRAKES: Dollies shall have air brakes or air-hydraulic brakes that meet the braking requirements of the Motor Vehicle Act Regulations.
TRAILERS: Expando trailers, semi-trailers and float trailers can be used provided they are equipped with tridem axles and the vehicle/load complies with the dimensions of Paragraph 14. Empty vehicle combinations must comply with legal dimensions.
16. The Manufactured Home Relocation Transport Permit must be produced and the number indicated under “Limitations” on the oversize permit.

1. This permit is NOT VALID:
(A) for highway travel on SATURDAYS, SUNDAYS OR GENERAL HOLIDAYS - Note: for the purposes of this Form,
a General Holiday will include New Years Day, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Victoria Day, Canada Day, BC Day,
Labour Day, Thanksgiving Day, Remembrance Day, Christmas Day & Boxing Day. If the General Holiday falls on
Saturday or Sunday, the additional designated day of observance (e.g. Friday or Monday will also be considered a
General Holiday)
(B) when because of unfavourable atmospheric conditions persons or vehicles on a highway are not clearly
discernible at a distance of 100 metres
(C) on EASTER MONDAY
2. This Permit is VALID only
(A) (i) Routes (a) (b) (c) (d) and (g) are permitted to travel from 10:00pm to 5:00am.
(ii) Routes (e), (f) and (j) is permitted to travel from 02:00am to 05:00am.
(iii) Routes (h), (i), and (k) are permitted to travel from 00:01am to 05:00am.
(iii) From Monday to Friday (excluding General Holidays).
(B) Approved routes are as follows: (permittee may use portions of route or combine routes)
(a) Sicamous to BC/US Pacific Border Crossing using Highways 1, 5 (Coquihalla), 3, 1, 1A, 10, 15 or vice versa.
(for heights exceeding 4.3 metres refer to special overheight routings)
(b) Merritt to BC/US Border @ Huntington/Sumas using Highways 5 (Coquihalla) 3, 1, 11 or vice versa
(c) Merritt to BC/US Border @ Osoyoos using Highways 1, 5, 97C, 97 or vice versa
(d) Penticton to Salmon Arm, using Highways 97, 97A, 97B, 1 or vice versa
(e) BC/AB border to Fernie using Highway 3 or vice versa
(f) BC/AB to Elkford using Highway 3 and 43 or vice versa
(g) Kelowna/Langley to Nanaimo using Highway 10, Ladner Trunk Road, Highway 17, and Highway 1 from Duke
Point to Nanaimo or vice versa
(h) Kamloops to Prince George using Highways 5, 16, or vice versa.
(i) Tete Jaune Cache to the BC/AB Border on Highway 16 or vice versa
(j) Kamloops to Quesnel using Highway 1, 97, or vice versa.
(k) Vancouver Island – Duke Point Ferry Terminal to Town of Lake Cowichan using Highway 19, 1, 18, or vice
versa.
3. Traffic control must be performed at the following locations by an authorized person: Note: Authorized person is a
Peace Officer or a person authorized by the Ministry of Transportation ie. Flag person.
Route (a)
(i) Sicamous bridge for 5 km westbound or vice versa
(ii) 5 km west of Sorrento for a distance of 2 km westbound to Little River Boatworld or vice versa
(iii) 100 metres east of Hoffman’s Bluff for a distance of 1.5 km westbound to beyond the bluff or vice versa
Route (c)
(i) Okanagan Falls Bridge (North Side of Town) or vice versa
(ii) Vaseux Lake @ Rockcuts for 2 km or vice versa
(iii) Mcalpine Bridge (5 km North of Oliver) or vice versa
Route (d)
(i) Pullout southside of Kelowna Bridge to northside of Kelowna Bridge or vice versa (Loads restricted to
4.57 metres in height and must use center lane).
(ii) Pullout at Wood Lake (Northbound) to Oyama Road or vice versa
(iii) End of 4 lane on Highway 97A at Western Concrete Plant to Cecil Bogg Road or vice versa
Route (e)
(i) BC/AB border to the weigh scale or vice versa
(ii) Weigh Scale to Corbin Crossing or vice versa

4. To be transported in legs as follows: Note: “Leg” is defined as a portion of the total trip.

5. Pilot Cars:
(a) Three pilot cars required at all times on two lane highways (two to the front and one to the rear)
(b) Two pilot cars required on four lane divided highways (one to the front and one to the rear)
(c) Pilot cars must be properly equipped and operated according to Division 8.04 of the Commercial Transport Act

(d) Two-way radio communications is required between the pilot cars and towing vehicle
6. Lighting and signage requirements are as follows:
(a) Load shall be equipped with two (2) flashing sealed beam amber lamps not less than 15 centimetres in diameter
mounted on the two (2) upper corners facing to the rear. Two amber strobe lamps not less than 11 centimetres in
diameter may also be used.

(b) Load shall be equipped with and operate a 32 candela flood-lamp, which shall be mounted on the hitch or frame
within 60 centimetres of the load so that the light emitted illuminates the upper front portion of the load.
(c) Towing vehicle shall be equipped with and operate 1 or 2 rotating or strobe lights amber in colour. Amber lamps on
towing vehicle must be at least 15 cm in diameter and 12 cm in height. Strobe lamps must be at least 11 cm
diameter and 12 cm in height. Amber lamps may also be used for additional safety at the rear of the vehicle or
load.
(d) Load must display “CAUTION – MAY SLOW OR STOP UNEXPECTEDLY” on the rear of the structure (refer CTR
8.03(2)).
7. Dimensional requirements are as follows:
(a) If expando semi-trailers are used the maximum distance allowed from the kingpin to center of the last axle must not
exceed 18.3 m (the addition of deck sections to a lowbed semi-trailer will be defined as an expando semi-trailer)
(b) Lowbed semi-trailer width cannot exceed 3.2 metres.
(c) Any two-vehicle combination may be expanded to a maximum overall length of 31.5 metres and three or more
vehicle combinations may be permitted to a maximum of 32 metres.
8. When oversize vehicles/loads are authorized by permit to travel at night, these vehicles/loads shall be lighted as follows:
Front projections – white lights (MVAR 4.20); Rear projections – red lights (MVAR 4.20); Overwidth vehicles/loads
(MVAR 4.22); Front extremities – amber lights, Rear extremities – red lights.
9. When required, all lamps must be lighted while operating on a highway.
10. All SIGNS must meet the specifications as outlined in Division 8 of the Regulations pursuant to the Commercial
Transport Act.
11. This permit is valid ONLY on PROVINCIAL HIGHWAYS and ARTERIAL HIGHWAYS within a city or municipality. When
travelling municipal/city streets a municipal/city permit may be required.
12. There shall be no overtaking of any overdimensional vehicles/loads on any highway by this overdimensional vehicle/load.
There shall be NO CONVOYING of oversize vehicles/loads except as required by the permit. Convoying means any
two oversize vehicles/loads while in transit less than a 5-minute interval apart on a section of highway.
13. The oversize vehicle SHALL pull off travelled surface of the highway wherever possible to allow following vehicles to
pass.
14. If the vehicle or load obscures the rear vision from the towing vehicle the REAR VIEW MIRRORS must be extended or
positioned so as to provide the driver with an undistorted reflected view of the adjacent lane of the highway from a point
on the road surface 11 m behind the driver to a point on the road surface 61 m from the rear of the combination of
vehicles.
15. 10 cm will be allowed on each side of the unit beyond permitted overwidth, for load securement devices (reference CTAR
7.10(c)).
16. Semi-trailer lowbed wheelbase up to a maximum 15.25 metres and lowbed overall length up to a maximum 18.3 metres
will be permitted empty or loaded.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR MANUFACTURED HOMES AND MODULAR BUILDINGS
17. Dimensions:
(a) Manufactured Home:
